A Letter from the Chairman
It is very sad to write about the death of David Milbank. David died on 11 September this year following a brave fight with Cancer. David committed a large part of his life to Aysgarth and was a member of the Old Aysgarthian Committee which he chaired for many years. David’s great passion was cricket and I am sure many of you will have enjoyed his expert and enthusiastic coaching over the years. David had the ability to spot and develop talent; he was a great friend and mentor to so many of us and an inspiration to us all. He will be greatly missed but leaves behind him many happy memories.
On a happier note I am pleased to welcome Simon Price and Ben Haslam who have kindly agreed to join the Old Aysgarthian committee. I have no doubt that they will be a great help in the running of the OAA and the committee look forward to working with them.
The OAA hosted a very successful drinks party at Boodles this year. Many thanks to John Highley who was the official Boodles’ host at the club allowing us to use the excellent facilities. Over 100 people turned up for a lively evening which was enjoyed by many of the London contingent of the OAA.
For some years the OAA has promised the school a contribution towards the chapel lighting which has been in need of improvement. I am please to say that £6,000 was donated to the school this year from the Association. This money has been put to good use and the chapel lighting looks magnificent.
May I take this opportunity to welcome the 2010 leavers; I hope that you will support the OAA and use it as a way in which to keep in touch not only with the school, but also with the good friends you have made during your happy years at Aysgarth. Please keep us in touch with what you are doing. I would also like to thank Hugo Vaux and his role as Honorary Treasurer of the Association, and also Philip Holt who remains our Honorary Auditor. As always, huge thanks must once again be given to Eileen Harrison-Topham for all her continued hard work in running the OAA. Please do keep Eileen informed of any changes in your circumstances so we can send out the magazine and invite you to up and coming events.
With very best wishes,
Nicko Wilson
