Sailing to Success
Three boys from Aysgarth became Northern Prep Schools Sailing Champions last weekend.
Sailing Toppers at Killington Lake against schools from as far afield as Wales, Charles Nainby-Luxmoore, Wilfred Deacon and Harry Bolton beat last year’s winners in a very closely fought competition.
After the morning’s three races the threesome were lying in third place having secured second place in each of their races. This meant that they qualified for the Gold fleet in the afternoon sailing against the best teams from the morning. With increasing winds and a longer course the Aysgarth boys fared much better in the more challenging conditions. The team secured a second place in the first race. After the second race they were lying in first place and increased their lead ahead of Rydal Penrhos A after the final race of the day. Rydal Penrhos B finished third with Sedbergh B in fourth.
As well as leading his team to victory on Sunday, Charles recently won a sailing scholarship to Milton Abbey in Dorset where he starts in September.
